General Comments: The school year has started at full speed. I am settling into some routines, and meeting so many people. It is exciting to be on the other side of Opening Day, and watching how quickly our ASO’s and District Principal have become a highly functioning team. It is sometimes hard to keep up with all the ideas they are generating to keep our students engaged, excited, and learning.
Testing: NDE has allowed the use of I-Ready test data to inform Read by Grade 3 designations. Our site leadership team has decided that we will eliminate a round of testing for our students by using I-Ready data instead of MAP Test data. Our students will not have to take 2 math tests and 2 reading tests. We will still use the MAP for Science and Language Arts.
State Senator Visit: On Thursday, August 14, Senator Catherine Cortez Masto is visiting Goldfield Elementary as part of her rural outreach. I am excited to share all of the great things we are doing. She is especially interested in seeing how mixed-grade classrooms work.

General Comments
The new school year is off to a dynamic start! I've been immersing myself in our district's operations and am continually impressed by the dedication of our staff. Our ASO’s and new District Principal have quickly formed a highly cohesive and innovative team. Their commitment to generating fresh ideas to keep our students engaged, excited, and learning is truly inspiring and promises a year of significant progress.
Streamlining Our Testing Procedures
In an effort to be more strategic and efficient with our time, we are making a positive change to our student assessments. The Nevada Department of Education has approved the use of
I-Ready reading test data for "Read by Grade 3" designations. This allows our site leadership team to streamline the assessment process by using I-Ready data in place of the MAP test data for reading. This means our students will no longer have to take two separate reading and two separate math tests, giving them more instructional time in the classroom. We will continue to use the MAP test for science and language arts. This is a thoughtful adjustment that we are confident will benefit our students and teachers.
Upcoming State Senator Visit
We are honored to announce that
Senator Catherine Cortez Masto will be visiting Goldfield Elementary on Thursday, August 14th, as part of her rural outreach efforts. This is a tremendous opportunity to highlight the great work being done in our district. We are especially looking forward to showcasing our successful mixed-grade classrooms, as the Senator has expressed a particular interest in seeing them in action. We are confident this visit will shine a positive light on our students, staff, and community.
